Bettenay - Sauvignon Blanc 2009

The grapes were harvested in the cool of the night with extended skin contact for 12 hours to maximise aroma and flavour extraction before a gentle pressing in an airbag press to liberate the juice from the pulp and skins. The juice was quickly cooled and settled until crystal clear before being racked to a chilled stainless steel tank for a long cool fermentation. Specific aromatic yeast was selected to highlight the tropical esters of Sauvignon Blanc.

Aroma: This is a fresh ripe wine with lifted tropical aromas of pineapple, peach, passionfruit and honey dew melon.
Palate: The palate displays a crisp, lively acid balance and abundance of sweet fruit characters.

Bettenay - Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2009

This wine displays the zesty lemon sherbet characters of Semillon, with light tropical fruit flavours such as guava and gooseberries arising from the small Sauvignon Blanc component. A lively, crisp, clean wine that will entice you back for more

Bettenay - Reserve Chardonnay 2008

The warm growing season of 2008 along with a philosophy for dry grown Chardonnay has lead to reduced crop levels and the development of intense fruit flavours in this wine. As a result, this seasons Chardonnay is beautifully balanced with complexity and integration making it a superb wine to drink now, but will be equally as rewarding to hold back in the cellar for 5 – 10 years.

Aromatic display of soft nougat, roast almonds, ripe stone fruit, vanillin, crème brûlée, dried banana and a touch of grapefruit.

Soft, dense, complex palate with faint honey characters, along with vanillin oak, crème caramel, roasted almonds, and warm sour dough. Sweet fruit impressions lead on to grapefruit and lime fruit flavours.

Bettenay - Cabernet Merlot 2006

The 2006 growing season was cool and dry, which highlighted the varietal characters of the red wines produced. Cabernet and Merlot were picked at ideal ripeness from 17-year-old dry grown vines.

AROMA: Fruit aromas of mulberry and blackberry are backed by hints of coffee bean and an appealing earthiness.

PALATE: Sweet black plum and blackberry fruit entice the front palate. The mid palate has ample fruit sweetness with hints of tar, liquorice and freshly turned earth. The wine has an ideal balance of tannin and acid and a long cedar/cigar box finish.

Bettenay - Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

In 2005, the Margaret River region experienced ideal conditions for producing full bodied red wines. The grapes were left to develop ripe noble tannins prior to harvest at the peak of the balance between natural sugar and acid. The fruit was plunged 3 times a day with the temperature peaking at 28˚C.

Aroma: Ripe sweet fruits dominate with red berries, blackcurrant and cooked plums to the fore. The oak support produces a hint of chocolate and a toast cinnamon character.

Palate: The wine offers sweet fruit impressions supported by plum and blackcurrant fruit flavours. Secondary flavours of cedar, leather, tobacco and hints of spice.

If Cabernet is the ever reliable monarch, then Merlot is the elusive Prince Charming. Merlot is one that disappears overseas for years at a time and only reappears on a whim and a fancy. At Bettenay’s we refuse to let Merlot out without the company of Cabernet unless he is on his best behaviour. Arise Sir Merlot, 2007 is your year. Come again soon.

Bettenay - Shiraz 2008

This wine has been aged in 80% French oak and 20% American Oak. Maturation in barrel peaked at 20 months where maximum fruit intensity complemented secondary oak driven characteristics of the barrel ageing process. The outcome, a truly rich and elegant example of a Margaret River grown Shiraz.

AROMA: Aromas of raspberry, red fruits and a touch of white Pepper and spice.

PALATE: Raspberry and fruits of the forest. Medium silky tannins with rich red fruit impressions.
