Bettenay - Cabernet Merlot 2006
The Margaret River area is ideally suited to the growing of world class Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A bad year for reds in Margaret River is said to be better than a good year in most other wine regions. In other words, there are no bad years.
The 2006 growing season was cool and dry, which highlighted the varietal characters of the red wines produced. Cabernet and Merlot were picked at ideal ripeness from 17-year-old dry grown vines. The fruit was gently crushed to small closed fermenters retaining a high percentage of whole berries. The fermentation was inoculated quickly and the wine was pumped over twice daily and racked and returned for the first 3 days. This dispersed excess heat from the skins allowing a gentle extraction of colour and tannin without coarse bitterness.
The wine was gently pressed and matured in new and used French oak for 18 months prior to an egg fining and bottling.
Colour– Blood plum with brick red hues.
Aroma – Fruit aromas of mulberry and blackcurrant are backed by hints of coffee bean and an appealing earthiness.
Palate– Sweet black plum and blackcurrant fruit greet the front palate. The mid palate has ample fruit sweetness with hints of tar, liquorice and freshly turned earth. The wine has an ideal balance of tannin and acid and a long cedar/cigar box finish.
This wine will age gracefully for 7 years and more. A perfect accompaniment to grilled veal cutlets and garlic mash.

Bettenay - Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
In 2005, the MargaretRiver region experienced ideal conditions for producing full bodied red wines. The king of grapes did particularly well on an ideal site from a great vintage. The grapes were left to develop ripe noble tannins prior to harvest at the peak of the balance between natural sugar and acid. The fruit was crushed to open fermenters where it was hand plunged 3 times a day with the temperature peaking at 28 degrees. The dry wine was drained directly to barrels before the skins were gently basket pressed. MLF occurred spontaneously in a mixture of new French and used oak barrels prior to subsequent maturation for 20 months. The wine was fined with free range egg whites in barrel prior to coarse filtration and bottling.
Colour: Vibrant magenta red with tints of brick red.
Aroma: Ripe sweet fruits dominate with red berries, blackcurrant and cooked plums to the fore. The oak support produces a hint of chocolate and a toast cinnamon character.
Palate: The wine offers sweet fruit impressions supported by plum and blackcurrant fruit flavours. Secondary flavours of cedar, leather, tobacco and hints of spice are backed by fine tannins and a lingering toasty finish. The wine is velvety smooth and rich and shows the potential to age for many years.
This wine will age gracefully for 7 - 10 years. Great with all meat dishes, especially rich meals like a slow cooked Osso Bucco.

Lost Plot - Chilli Rose (Mild/Hot)
From a concept born from a lightning bolt of inspiration to Bettenay the Jr, a wine came to be born in the same way that Dr Frankenstein worked. A little bit here, a little bit there, and haway! It’s all there but the legs. (consuming on the job makes you legless-geddit?)
So what we have is a bright chilli pink rosé, that is fortified in the manner of the finest wine lickers and left with birds eye asian chillies steeping in it to add spice, pepper and fire in a not too subtle manner. It’s an internal heater in winter , a bit of desert wind in summer and a great drink any time you want to thai one on.
It’s a part of the infamous Lost Plot range with the vineyard mascot dog on the label. So a hot dog it is….. definitely saucy, lipstick to the eye and easy to the mouth. So get a dog in ya.
Colour– Chilli Red
Aroma – Strawberry, Capsicum, and of course…Chilli !!!
Palate– The mild chilli fortified rose begins as a gentle spicy strawberry experience and gradually intensifies after a couple of sips. The hot chilli takes u straight there…and more!!!
